ISA worked in partnership with EDF and intern Donia Peerhossaini to produce a research document to present an overview of current practices in sustainability benchmarking in the real estate sector. This was released at Expo Real in October 2012.
Sustainability benchmarking of a property or property portfolio is widely used today by businesses. It provides a significant amount of information to owners, tenants and operators that can influence company policy; strategy and operations.
The objective of this research paper is to present an overview of current practices in sustainability benchmarking the real estate sector. By collecting information and analysing the situation, this paper will identify the best practices and principles. It will help to understand the position of ISA products in the market and to identify opportunities for improvements.
ISA is a not-for profit membership organisation, launched in 2010 to respond to requirements for the sustainability benchmarking. ISA offers its members a robust sustainability benchmark that is supported by organisations such as BRE. All of ISA’s members are stakeholders involved in the real estate market: owners, occupiers, fund managers, investors. ISA focuses on existing buildings that are in operation.
